The Volleyball team returned home this past week and hosted a match against Lenoir CC on Tuesday night and then opened conference play against Richard Bland on Saturday followed by a rematch with USC-Lancaster.
The Trojans won two out of their three games, improving to 8-3 overall and starting 0-1 in conference play after a tough match against Richard Bland College.
FTCC vs. Lenoir CC: 3-0, Win
Tuesday night the Trojans hosted their first home match of the year.
Kyrie Willis (Cypress, TX) led the Trojans in the home opener with 15 kills, eight digs and two blocks. They had a total of 18 kills in the match, five coming from both Ella Ferrie (Stanchfield, MN) and Sammy Harless (St. George, UT).
Taylor Detrant (Keizer, OR) set 22 of the Trojans 36 assists and Madison Carter (Benson, NC) added seven.
Detrant also led the defense with 10 digs. Ferrie had eight and Addie Hudson (Wade, NC) added seven.
Kayloni Eddings (Pembroke, NC) and Harless each had three blocks.
FTCC vs. Richard Bland: 2-3, Loss
After winning the first two sets against the Statesmen, the Trojans fell short in the following two to force the game to go five. The Statesmen came out on top and handed the Trojans their first conference loss.
Harless and Willis each had 17 kills for the Trojans. Ferrie was right behind with 12 kills and five service aces.
Detrant set up 51 assists and had four service aces.
Gracie Moore (Hendersonville, NC) and Hudson each had 16 digs on the defensive side and Ferrie and Carter each added 12.
The Trojans had 23 blocks in the match, 11 coming from Eddings.
FTCC vs. USC-Lancaster: 3-0, Win
After losing on the road to the Lancers in Lancaster, the Trojans didn’t let them pass 18 points on their home court.
The Trojans had 37 kills in the three set match. Willis led with 10 and Harless added nine.
Detrant added 24 assists and had nine digs. Hudson led on defense with 11 digs.
Volleyball is back at home this week hosting Wake Tech on Tuesday and Pitt on Thursday for two non-conference matches. Both games are set for a 6PM start time. All home games are played on main campus in Horace Sisk Gym and admission is $10 or free with FTCC ID or children 12 and under.
