FAYETTEVILLE, NC – August 29, 2019 – The Student Government Association of Fayetteville Technical Community College invites FTCC students, faculty, staff, and the public to participate in the 9/11 observance on Wednesday, September 11, beginning at 9 a.m. The observance will take place at the student gazebo located near the Tony Rand Student Center, Fayetteville campus, 2201 Hull Road.
LTC Anthony (Tony) A. Keller, Battalion Commander of 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division, will serve as the keynote speaker. LTC Keller, who has served in various infantry units over the past seventeen years, describes his journey of life when adopted at a young age as one with modest, humble beginnings. His message to remember the fallen of 9/11 will include defining moments in his life that led him to a career to serve our nation. Other guests participating in the observance will be the Fayetteville Fire Department Honor Guard, Roberto Candelaria singing the National Anthem, and Doug Elwell playing bagpipes.
Free parking for visitors is available in Parking Lot 4 behind the Advanced Technology Center. In the event of rain or inclement weather conditions, FTCC SGA will hold the event inside the Tony Rand Student Center.
“We are honored for LTC Anthony Keller to join our campus as keynote speaker as we remember the lives lost as a result of 9/11,” said FTCC President Dr. Larry Keen. “The opportunity to recognize the loss of civilian lives, firefighters, law enforcement officers, other emergency rescue officials, and the men and women who served and currently serve in our nation’s armed forces is important in maintaining the rhythm of the spirit and hearts of Americans.”
The purpose of the Student Government Association of Fayetteville Technical Community College is to promote good relationships and understanding among students, administration, faculty, staff, and trustees, while fostering leadership, scholarship, and responsibility among students. Mr. Jesse Watts serves as president of the FTCC Student Government Association and president of N4CSGA, the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association.
