Baseball was floating in the middle of the pack going into their last weekend of conference games, needing to win big to make the Region 10 Conference Tournament. They were heading down to play #16 in the country, Brunswick Community College, on their home turf. The Trojans went in and took two out of the three games, boosting them enough to earn the #4 East spot heading into tournament play.
They will head to Burlington, North Carolina on Friday to face #1 West Catawba Valley CC at 7pm for game one.
FTCC vs. Brunswick:
Game One- 8-6, Win
The Trojans got on the board first to put up a one spot in the second inning. Toufic Khabie (Aventura, FL) reached on an error and Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL) singled. With one out, Outlaw stole third base and scored on an RBI groundball from Cole Feldman (Midlothian, VA).
Brunswick took the lead in the bottom of the second when they scored three runs to lead by two.
The Trojans had a big inning, plating four in the fourth. Outlaw singled to leadoff and Lucca Pascarella (Wilmington, NC) hit a double to put runners on second and third. With one out, Charlie Sindahl (Savannah, GA) singled for an RBI. JJ Faulkner (East Arcadia, NC) then came up and hit a three-run homerun to put the Trojans up by two.
Brunswick scored one in the bottom of the inning to bring the game within one run.
With two outs in the fifth, Outlaw hit a single then stole second base. He scored on an RBI single from Pascarella.
Two more runs were scored in the eighth and the ninth. Outlaw was hit by pitch to leadoff the eighth and scored an a double from Pascarella. In the ninth, Clayton Bloomstran (Atlanta, GA) hit a double and scored on a single from Outlaw.
The Dolphins scored two more runs in the ninth but the Trojans were able to get out of the inning.
Outlaw went 4-4 with four runs scored and one RBI. Pascarella went 3-5 with two doubles. Faulkner went 2-4 with three RBIs.
Jack Anderson (Saint Simmons Island, GA) started on the bump throwing 5.2 innings with four strikeouts. Tommy Parker (St. Pauls, NC) threw 2.1 innings and Xander Davis (Carolina Beach, NC) threw the final inning.
Game Two- 13-9, Win (8-innings)
In the top of the second, the Trojans scored their first runs. Outlaw and Braylan Bull (Cumming, GA) were hit by pitch to leadoff the inning. Feldman laid down a sacrifice bunt, then Sindahl hit a single to plate two.
The Dolphins took the lead in the bottom and added leading by six going into the seventh.
The Trojans scored six runs in the top of the seventh, to tie the game and force extra innings. Bloomstran and Khabie hit back to back doubles to leadoff the inning. With one out, Bull singled and Takoda Hardin (Rockfish, NC) reached on an error. Zamar Lewis (Dublin, NC) was hit by pitch and Myles Odom (Pleasant Garden, NC) hit a two-run RBI single. Josiah Harrison (Chesterfield, VA) walked to keep the rally going with two outs, then Bloomstran and Khabie hit back to back singles to tie the game.
In the eighth, Lewis hit a two-out solo homerun to give the Trojans the lead. Faulkner then reached on an error and Odom singled. Harrison hit a three-run shot over the right field fence to give the Trojans some insurance runs.
The Dolphins went down in order in the bottom of the eighth by Griffin Widrig (Boardman, OH) to give the Trojans the sweep on the day.
Lucas Morgan (Florence, SC) pitched the first 3.2 innings followed by Ty’quez Hadley (Hartsville, SC) who threw 2.1 innings. Widrig pitched the final two innings.
Bloomstran went 4-5 with two RBIs.
Game Three- 2-12, Loss (5-innings)
The Trojans scored their two runs in the top of the first inning. Harrison hit a one-out single and Lewis smashed his second homerun of the weekend over the left field wall.
Brunswick scored 12 runs in five innings enforcing run-rule in game three.
Odom had one other hit for the Trojans, with the Dolphins holding them to only three hits.
With the regular season ending, the Trojans will travel to Burlington, NC on Friday to play Catawba Valley at 7pm. It is a double elimination tournament, either way the Trojans will play Saturday.
