From Student to Skilled Caregiver:

My Journey Through Fayetteville Technical Community College

My path to success began at Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC), where I enrolled in the Patient Care Technician (PCT) program. From the very beginning, I knew I had chosen the right place to build a strong foundation for a career in healthcare. The hands-on training, supportive learning environment and Ms. Wilburn’s dedicated instruction, gave meJesenia A. Moncivais the knowledge and confidence to enter the field.

After successfully completing the program, I secured a position at Cape Fear Valley Health Hospital’s Emergency Department. Working in such a fast-paced, high-pressure environment allowed me to apply my skills in real-world situations, further igniting my passion for patient care. But I knew my journey wasn’t over—I wanted to continue growing, both professionally and academically.

Determined to advance in my career, I set my sights on FTCC’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program. With a combination of hard work, perseverance, and the strong educational foundation I had built at FTCC, I was thrilled to be accepted into the program. The rigorous coursework and clinical experiences further strengthened my skills and deepened my understanding of nursing.

Graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) was a proud moment, but it was only the beginning of my expanded career path. With my LPN license in hand, I stepped into new roles that allowed me to serve diverse patient populations. I began working in pediatric home health, providing compassionate care to children in need, and later transitioned into adult detention services at the Cumberland County Detention Center, ensuring the health and well-being of incarcerated individuals.

However, my ambition to continue growing and learning has not stopped. I am currently exploring bridging programs to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), further advancing my skills and expanding my career opportunities in the nursing field.

FTCC provided me with not just an education but a launchpad for success. The opportunities I’ve had since graduating are a testament to the power of continuing education, persistence, and a passion for healthcare. My journey continues, and I am excited for the next chapter as I work toward earning my BSN—all thanks to the strong foundation built at Fayetteville Technical Community College.
