Softball traveled to play a three-game conference series at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Virginia. After some weather issues, they played two games on Saturday and one on Sunday before heading back to North Carolina. 

Softball is now 9-30 overall and 1-16 in conference play as they enter their last two weeks of regular season games. 

FTCC vs. Richard Bland:

Game One- 1-4, Loss

The Statesmen scored first with one run in the second inning and three more in the fourth to pull ahead by four. The Trojans scored their one and only run in the top of the fifth inning. 

Raven Ross-Gillespie (West End, NC) hit an infield single with one out. Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC) laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance her. Ross-Gillespie then scored on a error by the Statesmen on a ground ball from Isabella Finelli (Pembroke, NC).

Gaither had two stolen bases and Maddie Burns (Sanford, NC) recorded one. 

Albani Hooker (Sanford, NC) threw the six innings for the Trojans giving up four hits with six strikeouts.

Game Two- 2-8, Loss

The Trojans got on the board first in game two, scoring two runs in the third inning. 

With one out, Gaither hit a triple to left field and later scored stealing home. Nyla Mitchell (Lumberton, NC) reached on an error and Burns followed with a double to plate Mitchell. 

The Statesmen had a big fourth inning scoring all their eight runs in this one inning. 

Hooker pitched 5.1 innings for the Trojans and Mitchell finished the final 0.2 innings.

Game Three- 0-8, Loss (5-innings)

In game three, Richard Bland scored in the first inning and did not let up forcing the game over in five innings. 

The Trojans had two hits, one from Mia Vasquez (St. Pauls, NC) and one from Gaither. 

Hooker threw four innings, giving up eight hits but getting two strikeouts.

Softball is back on the road this weekend as they head to Bryant & Stratton College for another three-game conference series. They will be back at home the following week for their Autism Awareness Game on Wednesday, April 23 against Brunswick Community College. Then a conference series with Pitt Community College that weekend for Sophomore Day.
