Dear Reader,

The road to success is not an easy road but is achievable. Growing up I was not always an academically gifted individual, but with dedication and practice I became someone that hopes to be an influence to others that also may debut their academic goals. Prior to me returning to FTCC to continue my education, I was attending the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and was not enjoying the degree route that I signed up for. I thought my undergraduate was not going to get me anywhere and I did it take my classes seriously. During this time, COVID really was taking over and the world was becoming isolated. At the time when I realized I was not motivated toJeremiah Brewington continue with my commute back and forth from class and work, I took a step back from school to reevaluate what I wanted for myself as a lifelong career. Here is when my FTCC journey truly started.

In June of 2022, I was enrolled in the Phlebotomy program at FTCC. This was my first step into a path that eventually became my calling. Through my Phlebotomy program, my eyes were opened to different elements in the healthcare field and I came across people that gave me a lot of advice and encouragement. Along this path I was introduced to an instructor that pushed me so hard academically that I can not thank her enough for the words of motivation and the will to continue. Later on in the program this instructor told me about a Patient Care Technician (PCT) program she was going to be teaching once the Phlebotomy program was over. Growing to trust her and taking her advice, I went forward in taking the Patient Care Technician program.

January of 2023 was the start of my PCT course and the opening to many doors that I was being led through. During the course, we had the pleasure to tour Cape Fear Valley Hospital. In touring the hospital, some of the dept. managers we spoke to asked if we would like to interview on the spot. I told myself I could not let this opportunity pass and not take advantage of it. After my interview I was confident and eager to know the results of my interview. Little did I know I would be hearing back from them the day after the tour. This gave me the courage that I needed within myself to keep pushing for what I wanted in life.

Since June of 2023, I have been a PCT at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. I was so excited to embark on a new journey once again and did not know what I was getting myself into. With this being my first job in the healthcare field, I went to work each day with a helping heart and an open mind that was ready to take in new information that I was coming across each day. With my experience that I gained from working, it pushed me to want more for myself and to further my education so I can continue helping people in all the ways I can. In furthering my education, I have applied for nursing school and plan to apply to become a Nurse Practitioner.
